   Criminal Justice Internship Program

   A. Purpose: To establish a student internship program within the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.

   B. Policy Statement: Clarke County Sheriff’s Office supports and will participate in any program associated with a college or university which enables students working toward a degree in Criminal Justice or a related field to be exposed to the daily functions of a general law enforcement agency.
   
   The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office participates in this program in order to fulfill its obligation to the law enforcement community to bring about a more professional and informed deputy sheriff. 

   This program achieves the varied goals of exposing members of the academic community to the realities of applied theory and to expose the deputy sheriff to those engaged in scholastic endeavors directly relating to their chosen profession.

   C. Eligibility: In order to participate in the Criminal Justice Internship Program (CJIP) a person must be:

   1. at least eighteen (18) years of age.
   2. a student enrolled in good standing at a state accredited college or university.
   3. have completed two (2) years of undergraduate academic study and have a declared major relating to Criminal Justice. Any questions as to what majors relate to Criminal Justice will be determined by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
   4. have no physical, emotional, or psychological disability which would prevent exposure to stress.
   5. have written permission from the student's college and be participating in the CJIP under the auspices of that college.
   6. approved by the Sheriff or his designee.
