This service provides responses to questions concerning lawn, garden, and tree issues. Questions are addressed over the phone, through email, in person, or through a variety of gardening presentations that occur during the year.

This area also administers the Athens Area Master Gardener Program, Junior Master Gardener Programs at local elementary schools, and coordinates environmental education through a Master Naturalist Program. Additionally, pesticide certification credits are available to applicants. Educational portions of the Athens Farmers Market are also administered by this service area. Shades of Green Newsletter

Shades of Green is a monthly e-newsletter produced by the Athens-Clarke County Cooperative Extension from gardeners to gardeners. View current and past issues.

The newsletter offers information specific to local gardeners, including: 

  • seasonal articles
  • gardening tips, and 
  • a schedule of events of interest.

Green Thumb Lecture Series

From February through November, Athens-Clarke County Extension will be offering free monthly gardening classes.  These classes take place at the Extension office (275 Cleveland Rd., Bogart, GA) on the designated dates from 6-7:30 pm. Intended for gardeners of all experience and skill levels, the monthly classes will cover a variety of topics such as seasonal vegetable gardening, composting, beekeeping, and more.  Registration is required.  The specific link to join the Zoom meeting will be sent to the email with which you register.
