Schoolyard Litter Gitters

Thank you to all of Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful’s “Schoolyard Litter Gitter Teams” and Adopt-A-Highway groups. During the 2018-19 fiscal year:

  • 23 schoolyard Litter Gitter cleanups at 16 schools
  • 106 bags of trash picked up
  • 12 bags of recyclables picked up
  • 860 volunteers

Through the "Litter Gitter" and the Adopt-a-Highway programs, students are able to learn about volunteerism and make a positive impact by taking ownership of their schoolyard and their communities.

You can find some of the best standards aligned lessons in our Green School Lesson Share.  They are sorted by grade and represent the many ways that teachers have found to connect litter cleanups across the curriculum.

You don’t have to miss out on this great service project if you don’t have "grab-its" available at your school – just call KACCB at 706-613-3501 x7872 and borrow a set.  This is a great way to get the kids outside and build school pride through service.  Or visit our Adopt-a-highway tool reservation page or our Down & Dirty Project Request Form to inquire about tool loan and how KACCB can support your group.
