Volunteer Opportunities - Parks

The Leisure Services Department maintains more than 2,000 acres and we need volunteers to help maintain trails and other important tasks.

Bishop Park
This 33-acre park features athletic fields, pool, and is the home of the area's premier gymnastics program, the Star Spangled Classic Fireworks Show, and soccer coaches will register here to begin coaching.

Walker Park
This 113-acre park is a popular site for football, rugby, softball, and ultimate frisbee games and tournaments. It is also the site of youth basketball coach registration and the home of Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association's first sanctioned trail in Athens.

Greenway and Riverside Parks
Greenway and Riverside Parks are located along the Oconee River and provide wildlife corridors, open spaces, and a family friendly multi-use path for the public's enjoyment. Trail beautification opportunities are available for individuals, large and small groups.

Memorial Park
Nestled in the Five Points neighborhood, the park boasts a swimming pool, the Birchmore Trail, a lake, and Bear Hollow Zoo. Additionally, the 72-acre park is the home of Athens Creative Theatre and Birchmore Trail's Weed Warriors.

Sandy Creek Park
Enjoy outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting. This 782-acre park surrounds 260-acre Lake Chapman and offers a variety of activities throughout the year. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available from Kayak Clean-ups and Trail Beautification to Special Event Volunteers.

Southeast Clarke Park
Home of the World of Wonder Park and a dog park. This park also houses the youth soccer matches, a skate park, and tennis courts.
