Marc Beechuk

"I wonder if it remembers me." Fans of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou will recognize the jaguar shark artist Marc Beechuk paid tribute to in his fire hydrant design.  And if there is a deadly jaguar shark anywhere, you can be sure to find a weathered Bill Murray on the hunt and lurking nearby.  Who knew Bill would visit near The Caledonia Lounge on the corner of Clayton St. & Pulaski?

It is appropriate Marc's design was selected from a blind submission process.  Not only is he an Athens-Clarke County employee, but he is the chair of the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission (ACAC), the panel appointed by the mayor and commission to advise the county government on public art.  Fire Up the Hydrants is a perfect example of how public art brings character to a town.  We hope the installation of public art displays don't dry up!
