Artist David Lunde is an architect by trade, but the lure of a competition and the challenge of painting a 3-D object pulled him into Fire Up the Hydrants. He was one of over 75 people to submit a hydrant design. All hydrants had to remain functional after the application of the design. Easy visibility was also a priority in choosing the finalists. As you can imagine, this miniature fire station was a hit with the firefighter judges involved in the selection process. The bright red and green colors make the hydrant easy to spot near the Athens Wok on the corner of Clayton St. & Thomas St.
