When the
Georgia Theatre caught fire in 2009, this fire hydrant was instrumental in extinguishing the blaze with a ready supply of water. Artist
Sheridan Soileau paid proper respect to the tallest hydrant on the H2.O Water Walk. A six-string guitar graces the front and a notice to all that "Athens Rocks" is found on the back. Her design pays tribute to our local artists, musicians, and Athens prominence on the national music scene.
See this hydrant live on the corner of Clayton St. & Lumpkin St. next to the
theatre. You can also catch a sneak peak of it
in a recent video made by Barrelman Productions for the
Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau.
