On March 10, 2022, Athens-Clarke County Manager Blaine Williams appointed Athens-Clarke County Deputy Police Chief Jerry Saulters to serve as Interim Police Chief. Saulters has served with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department since 1998 in positions throughout the department. He was promoted to one of the Deputy Chief positions in 2019.
Saulters will serve until a permanent replacement is named after the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government conducts a national search. The process is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Manager Williams for affording me the honor to serve as Interim Chief of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department during this transition,” says Saulters. “I am excited to provide leadership to the outstanding men and women of ACCPD while continuing to build a modern, community-focused agency.”
A survey to ask residents for input about what they believe should be the characteristics, qualities, and priorities of the next Athens-Clarke County Police Chief is open through Sunday, April 10, 2022.
