Toilet Flapper Promo: Do You Have a Blue Lou?

Monday, November 1, 2021

Don’t have a Blue Lou! Check your loo for leaks with blue toilet tablets or food coloring and replace your flapper if needed. The toilet flapper - the plug that falls against the drain hole inside the tank and holds water in until the toilet is flushed - can become damaged which can result in toilet leaks and higher water bills. Replacing a flapper is a simple and inexpensive repair. Toilet tablets & two-inch and three-inch universal-style flappers are available for FREE from Athens Hardware & Normal Hardware during November when you mention the Water Conservation Office. Don’t know which size? Turn off the water to your toilet, remove the flapper, and bring it to the store, or measure the size of the drain in the bottom of the tank. The experts at these shops can help you determine which size you need.

How to use dye tablets or food coloring:

1.  Put blue dye tablets or food coloring into the back of your toilet tank.
2.  Wait about 10 minutes.
3.  Look in the toilet bowl.  Do you see blue?  If so, you have a Blue Lou!  This probably means your toilet flapper is worn and causing a silent toilet leak.  Water still clear in the bowl?  You probably don't have a toilet leak.  But know for sure by signing up for your FREE WaterSmart account to track your use.  See water use taking place when you are asleep or at work?  You probably have a leak.  Learn more about WaterSmart:  www.accgov.com/WaterSmart.

The flapper promotion is in recognition of World Toilet Day, which takes place every November 19th to raise awareness of the importance of toilets and to ensure no one is left behind without sanitation. This World Toilet Day, make sure Lou is never blue.  #ValuingToilets
