"Collections from our Community Nancy Songster’s Tiny Houses" at Lyndon House Arts Center
Wednesday, November 16, 2022
The Lyndon House Arts Center’s Collections from our Community features unique collections of objects found in the closets, cabinets, shelves of Athens-area citizens. In time for the winter season, the Lyndon House Arts Center announces a new exhibit of hand crafted miniature scenes lovingly created by Nancy Songster. Illuminated chandeliers, Christmas trees, rooms built in decorative styles and a build a bear workshop, visitors will find themselves entering the world of the tiny.
“I began my journey into fascination with miniatures – that is small or minute replicas or reproductions of all things life sized – nearly 50 years ago. It was only natural with two pre-school daughters that dollhouses would have such a strong first appeal. A simple dollhouse donated as a fundraiser led to contacts with other people interested in miniatures. It followed that I became aware of publications, national organizations, individual artists, and shows devoted to miniatures of all kinds. Like many hobbies, there is also a network of miniaturists. The whole “miniature world” opened up to me. Everything for a house or shop and anything to make and furnish one was available in miniature scale from artists or commercial dealers.” – Nancy Songster
We are pleased to host Nancy Songster for a Collectors Discussion on Tuesday December 6th at 6pm. Come listen to her story and to get an up close look as she spins the house tableaus.
All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
