ACCPD responded to an Aggravated Assault in progress and forced entry
into an apartment to prevent injury to a female victim. The incident occurred at an
apartment on International Drive at approximately 11:35 pm on March 24, 2019.
Officers arrived at the location after several callers witnessed a male subject,
later determined to be Shimobi Obijuru, 20-years-old, holding a knife against a
female victim’s throat, forcing her into an apartment. Witnesses identified the
apartment where the victim and Obijuru were last seen.
Officers made several attempts to gain access to the apartment by knocking
and announcing their presence but did not receive any response. Fearing for the
safety of the female victim, our officer forced entry into the apartment.
Once in the apartment, Obijuru was detained to secure the scene. An ACCPD
officer then made contact with the female victim who had minor injuries.
Obijuru was transported to the Clarke County Jail and charged with two
counts of Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Battery, and Simple
Battery.
