ACCGov Schedule & Service Changes for Memorial Day Holiday

Memorial Day closure information

Animal Services

  • The Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, May 29. The shelter will resume regular operating hours by appointment only on Tuesday, May 30 for fosters, adoptions, and rescues.
  • Animal Services officers will not be available for non-emergency calls on Monday, May 29. Non-emergency service calls will resume on Tuesday, May 30.
  • Emergency services such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home will be provided throughout the holiday by calling 911.

Leisure Services

  • Parks will operate under regular hours on Monday, May 29.
  • All other department facilities (Sandy Creek Nature Center, Lyndon House Arts Center, and all community centers) and offices will be closed on Monday, May 29.
  • Bishop Park pool is closed for the summer due to renovations, but all other pools (East Athens Community Center, Lay Park, and Memorial Park) and the Rocksprings Park pool and splash pad are open on Memorial Day from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. The Walker Park splash pad will be open from 10:00 AM until 5:30 PM. There is a $1 admission fee to all pools and splash pads.
  • All parks and facilities will reopen on Tuesday, May 30 under regular hours of operation.

Solid Waste

  • Solid Waste administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 29.
  • Residential and commercial (outside the Downtown district) garbage and recycling collected by the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department will not be collected on Monday, May 29. Garbage and recycling will be collected on the following schedule:
    • Regular Monday and Tuesday collections will be collected on Tuesday, May 30.
    • Regular Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday collections will be collected as regularly scheduled.
  • Downtown district commercial customers are strongly encouraged to use dumpsters placed throughout the downtown area. Curbside, roll cart, and dumpster garbage and recycling services will be collected as needed on Monday, May 29.
  • All other commercial curbside, roll cart, and dumpster garbage and recycling services normally scheduled for Monday, May 29 will be collected on Tuesday, May 30. Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday, May 31; Wednesday collections will take place on Thursday, June 1; and Thursday and Friday collections will take place on Friday, June 2.
  • Leaf & limb collection will delay pickup by one day, beginning on Tuesday, May 30 through Friday, June 2. Collection is currently scheduled to finish up Area B and start Area C during this week.
  • The Materials Recycling Facility will be closed on Monday, May 29. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 30 from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
  • The Landfill will be closed on Monday, May 29. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 30 from 7:30 AM until 4:30 PM.
  • The CHaRM Facility is only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Its schedule will not change for the holiday.

Transit

  • Bus service is suspended on Monday, May 29. Transit services will resume under normal summer operating hours on Tuesday, May 30. Passengers are encouraged to check individual route schedules for details prior to travel.
  • Transit offices will be closed on Monday, May 29.

Other ACCGov Administrative Offices

All general ACCGov Department administrative offices and facilities – including City Hall, Courthouse, the Satula Avenue Government Building, and the Dougherty Street Government Building – will be closed on Monday, May 29. Regular operating schedules resume on Tuesday, May 30.
