Coronavirus COVID-19 Update - Courts & Courthouse

Fifth Order Extending Declaration of Statewide Judicial Emergency Until September 10

On August 11, 2020 Chief Justice Harold D. Melton of the Georgia Supreme Court extended a statewide judicial emergency through September 10, 2020.

The courts in Athens-Clarke County and the Western Judicial Circuit will continue to scale back court-related operations through September 10.

Among other things, the order continues to prohibit jury trial proceedings and most
Grand Jury proceedings. All courts are encouraged to continue to use and increase the use of technology to conduct remote judicial proceedings as a safer alternative to in-person proceedings. Some Athens-Clarke County courts, including Municipal Court and Superior Court (Chief Judge Eric Norris), have links to live videos of court proceedings on their websites when proceedings are occurring.

More information and the full order are available at www.accgov.com/coronavirus (direct link: www.accgov.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=4146).
