Vaccine Administration in Georgia

Vaccine Information

The ACCGov Coronavirus website at www.accgov.com/coronavirus has been updated with a new page with information on the COVID-19 vaccine. It will continue to be updated, along with the rest of the site, as information changes.

Below is some initial information from the site:

The Georgia Department of Public Health is currently administering COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 1a+, which includes:

  • Healthcare workers (physicians, nurses, laboratory technicians, EMS personnel, environmental services, etc.)
  • Residents and staff of long-term care facilities
  • As of January 11: Law enforcement, firefighters, first responders (including volunteer departments)
  • As of January 11: Adults aged 65 and older (and their caregivers as applicable)
Vaccine supply is very limited. Depending on vaccine supply allocations from the federal government, it may be weeks before additional providers will have vaccine available for quicker and more widespread distribution.

For information on additional priority levels, visit the Northeast Health District's COVID-19 Vaccine webpage or the Georgia Department of Public Health's COVID-19 Vaccine webpage.

In Athens-Clarke County, vaccines are being administered by both the GA Department of Public Health's Northeast Health District and private providers.

Public health departments are scheduling vaccines by appointment only.

There are two ways to make an appointment at a Northeast Health District clinic:
  • 1. Visit the Northeast Health District vaccination website (https://bit.ly/NEHDCOVIDVaccine) and fill out a registration form (direct link to form).
    • After you have submitted the registration form, the Northeast Health District will contact you to make an appointment if you are a member of one of the eligible priority groups.
    • Information on which groups are eligible can also be found at the link above.
    • There may be several days between when you submit the form and when you are contacted
  • 2. Call the Northeast Health District vaccine scheduling hotline at 706-340-0996
    • Assistance available Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM & Saturday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
    • Spanish assistance is available Monday - Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
    • Please be aware that due to high call volumes, hold times may be long.

You cannot make an appointment by calling or visiting a health department in the Northeast Health District.

Private providers who are administering vaccines will handle their own scheduling. However, all providers must follow the tiered distribution model.

Positive UGA COVID-19 Tests Reported Through DawgCheck - Week 20 (Dec. 28 - Jan. 3)

The University of Georgia DawgCheck tool gives members of the campus community the ability to self-monitor and to facilitate information sharing internally and with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). Any student or employee with a positive COVID-19 test is required to report the test in DawgCheck.

Last Five Weeks of Tests

Positive COVID-19 Tests Reported Through DawgCheck
Visit the UGA Health Center Website with these graphs and other updates.

The table above reflects the total number of positive test results reported through DawgCheck each week. It is updated every Wednesday. Please note the following:

  • Positive tests reported through DawgCheck are from any of the approximately 50,000 faculty, staff, and students connected to the University of Georgia, whether located in Athens, extended campuses, extension offices across the state, or even other states and countries for students who elected to take online classes.
  • The totals may include reports from individuals who have not been on campus recently, there may be delays in reporting, and the totals may even include individuals who have recovered.
  • Therefore, the data does not serve as an accurate barometer of the current status of COVID-19 at any point in time at any one of UGA’s campuses.
  • For the week of December 28, 32% of the tests in the “Other” category were performed in Athens-Clarke and its 5 adjoining counties, and the remaining 68% were located elsewhere. Seven students reported positive tests done outside of the state. Eight instructional faculty reported a positive test.

DawgCheck and other University of Georgia-related COVID information is available at the University Health Center website at https://uhs.uga.edu/healthtopics/covid-19-health-and-exposure-updates.
