Free Testing Clinics for CCSD Students, Staff & Families

The Clarke County School District is partnering with the Department of Public Health to provide COVID-19 testing opportunities for our school communities. All tests are free, optional, and offered as a convenience to students, staff, and families.

These testing clinics will be open to anyone who wants a PCR test. Results will be available within 24-48 hours.

No appointment is necessary. However, a one-time enrollment step (to group results by school) is required for all individuals seeking a COVID test through the CCSD testing program.

Updated Isolation & Quarantine Recommendations

CDC Isolation and Quarantine Recommendations

As of late December, CDC has updated isolation and quarantine recommendations for the public. These recommendations do not apply to healthcare personnel and do not supersede state, local, tribal, of territorial laws, rules, and regulations.

People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others.

Recommendations for people who are exposed to COVID-19 are also updated. If you are unvaccinated or more than 6 months out from your second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and you are not yet boosted, CDC recommends a quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. If a 5-day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others for 10 days after exposure.

People who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. For all those exposed, best practice would also include a test for COVID-19 at day 5 after exposure. If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately quarantine until a negative test confirms symptoms are not attributable to COVID-19.

Types of Masks & Respirators

Types of Masks and Respirators

Wearing a mask that fits well, is most protective, and that you will wear consistently is a critical public health tool for preventing spread of COVID-19.

Some masks and respirators offer higher levels of protection than others, and some may be harder to tolerate or wear consistently than others. It is most important to wear a well-fitting mask or respirator correctly that is comfortable for you and that provides good protection.

Properly fitted respirators provide the highest level of protection and may be most important for certain higher risk situations, or by some people at increased risk for severe disease.

CDC’s mask recommendations provide information that people can use to improve how well their masks protect them.

Positive UGA COVID-19 Tests Reported Through DawgCheck - (Jan. 17-23)

The University of Georgia DawgCheck tool gives members of the campus community the ability to self-monitor and to facilitate information sharing internally and with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). Any student or employee with a positive COVID-19 test is required to report the test in DawgCheck.

For the week of January 17, there were 919 reported positive COVID-19 tests through DawgCheck.

Last Five Weeks of Tests

DawgCheck Graph
Visit the UGA Health Center website with these graphs and other updates.

The table above reflects the total number of positive test results reported through DawgCheck each week. It is updated every Wednesday. Please note the following:

  • Positive tests reported through DawgCheck are from any of the approximately 50,000 faculty, staff, and students connected to the University of Georgia, whether located in Athens, extended campuses, extension offices across the state, or even other states and countries for students who elected to take online classes.
  • The totals may include reports from individuals who have not been on campus recently, there may be delays in reporting, and the totals may even include individuals who have recovered.
  • Therefore, the data do not serve as an accurate barometer of the current status of COVID-19 at any point in time at any one of UGA’s campuses.
  • Since August 10, 2020 UGA has supported surveillance testing for asymptomatic individuals and clinical (Health Center) testing resources for symptomatic students as a means of distancing the two populations and optimizing the use of Health Center staff and the facility.
  • For the week of January 17, 2022, the University Health Center conducted a total of 440 clinical tests, with 194 positive results, for a positivity rate of 44.09%.
  • Results of asymptomatic testing for the week of January 16, 2022: 1,830 tests (10% faculty, 18% staff & 72% students) had 249 positive results for a positivity rate of 13.6%.

DawgCheck and other University of Georgia-related COVID information is available at the University Health Center website at https://uhs.uga.edu/healthtopics/covid-19-health-and-exposure-updates.
