UGA Changes to COVID-19 Campus Response as of May 16 As the COVID-19 pandemic transitions and public health conditions and treatments improve, UGA will begin treating COVID-19 as they do any other infectious disease cases.
On May 16, 2022, they will discontinue the following COVID-19 measures on campus: - Weekly health and exposure updates on the COVID-19 website and that are also used below in this newsletter (a final update will publish on May 18, 2022);
- Weekend call center staffing by Student Care and Outreach;
- Accommodations for isolation and quarantine housing;
- Pop-up and surveillance testing; and
- DawgCheck as a reporting tool for positive cases.
The University Health Center continues to offer first, second, and booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine free of charge to faculty, staff, students and their eligible dependents aged 16 and up. To date, the UHC has provided more than 33,000 COVID vaccinations and conducted nearly 120,000 asymptomatic and symptomatic tests. Additionally, in light of the recent federal court decision, the University System of Georgia no longer requires the use of masks on campus transportation, consistent with other major transportation providers. UGA will maintaining a license for the DawgCheck notification system should it need to be redeployed and will make changes to their policies if necessary.

Any student or employee with a positive COVID-19 test is required to report the test in DawgCheck.
For the week of May 2, there were 97 reported positive COVID-19 tests through DawgCheck.

The table above reflects the total number of positive test results reported through DawgCheck each week. It is updated every Wednesday. Please note the following: - Positive tests reported through DawgCheck are from any of the approximately 50,000 faculty, staff, and students connected to the University of Georgia, whether located in Athens, extended campuses, extension offices across the state, or even other states and countries for students who elected to take online classes.
- The totals may include reports from individuals who have not been on campus recently, there may be delays in reporting, and the totals may even include individuals who have recovered.
- Therefore, the data do not serve as an accurate barometer of the current status of COVID-19 at any point in time at any one of UGA’s campuses.
- Since August 10, 2020 UGA has supported surveillance testing for asymptomatic individuals and clinical (Health Center) testing resources for symptomatic students as a means of distancing the two populations and optimizing the use of Health Center staff and the facility.
- For the week of May 2, 2022, the University Health Center conducted a total of 118 clinical tests, with 18 positive results, for a positivity rate of 15.25%.
- Results of asymptomatic testing for the week of May 2-6: 193 tests (18% faculty, 17% staff, and 65% students) had 16 positive results for a positivity rate of 8.3%.
DawgCheck and other University of Georgia-related COVID information is available at the University Health Center website at https://uhs.uga.edu/healthtopics/covid-19-health-and-exposure-updates.
