Don't Let Stormwater Scare You!

The Stormwater Management Program is dedicated to protecting Athens-Clarke County water from the moment it runs off our streets to the moment it reaches our streams. Our program operates under the NPDES General Permit for Phase II Stormwater Discharges. This permit lays out requirements necessary to properly manage stormwater (non-point source pollution) and pollutant discharges to our waters. Learn more about our program by visiting our website at https://www.accgov.com/1764/Stormwater-Management-Program.
Keep Our Waterways Safe This Halloween!

Stormwater is water that runs off roofs, driveways, and streets into our storm drains and rivers. In the journey from our streets to our streams, stormwater picks up chemicals, trash, and other pollutants that contaminate our waterways. The water that flows in our storm drains flows directly into our waterways, without passing through a water treatment plant, so it is important that only rain goes down our storm drains. Once you and your family are done eating your delicious Halloween candy, make sure to throw the wrappers in the trash can and encourage those around you to do the same!

Upcoming Leaf and Limb Collection

Many people don't think about it, but when leaf litter ends up in our storm drains, those leaves will empty out into our creeks, streams, and rivers in Athens and will use up oxygen while they decay which can kill aquatic organisms in our waterways. Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste offers leaf and limb pick up for county residents. For more information about leaf and limb pick up, visit https://www.accgov.com/leaflimb.
