Thank You for a Great School Year, CCSD!

With the school year having just wrapped up, we want to extend a huge thank you to Clarke County School District students, teachers, and staff for another fantastic year of learning, exploring, and collaborating!

Over the past year, our Stormwater team participated in dozens of events, from hands-on classroom visits and interactive STEAM and Career Days to the always exciting Public Works Week Rolling Tour. We’re grateful for every opportunity to share the importance of clean water, healthy watersheds, and how we can all protect our local environment.

Your curiosity, questions, and creativity inspire us each time we visit. We can’t wait to bring even more stormwater science and sustainability into CCSD classrooms next year!

Teachers: planning ahead for fall? Be sure to check out our K–12 Education Program webpage to explore all the free lessons and activities we offer. The Green School Program webpage is a great resource, too!

Save the Date: Athens Water Festival 2025

Get ready to splash into fun! The 16th annual Athens Water Festival is happening on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Sandy Creek Park!

Last year, we welcomed over 1,000 guests for a day of hands-on activities, games, and water-themed fun, and this year’s event is shaping up to be even bigger. Our 2025 theme? It’s-a Mario time! Join us for a water-filled adventure inspired by the world of Mario.

Stay tuned for more details this summer, and don’t forget to mark your calendars!

Pet Waste PSA for the Dog Days of Summer

Summer is here, and so are more walks, backyard playdates, and trips to the park with our furry friends. But with all that outdoor fun comes a not-so-fun problem: pet waste left behind can wash into our storm drains and waterways during summer storms.

Dog poop isn’t just gross, it’s a serious source of bacteria and nutrients that can pollute local creeks and rivers. The solution is simple: scoop it, bag it, and trash it every time, no matter where you are. Even off the trail, pet waste causes harm to the environment.

Doing your part helps keep our water clean, your neighborhood healthy, and your shoes safe!

Want to go the extra mile? Take the Pet Waste Warrior pledge and show your commitment to cleaner, safer outdoor spaces.
