Day of Service
The Athens-Clarke County MLK Day of Service will take place at a variety of locations throughout the community. The kick-off celebration will take place from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Lay Park Gymnasium (297 Hoyt Street). The first 400 registered volunteers at the kick-off will receive a free t-shirt. Light morning refreshments will be served. Following the kick-off from 10:00 AM to noon, 30+ community organizations, government agencies, cemeteries and schools will host volunteer service projects. - Field Services
- Mon., Jan. 19 - Emergency on-call only. Emergency on-call services - such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home - will be provided throughout the holiday by calling 911.

- Facilities

- Mon., Jan. 19 - Reduced hours of 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM except for Sandy Creek Park, which is closed on Mondays.

Solid Waste
- Residential and commercial (outside the Downtown district) garbage and recycling collected by the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department will not be collected on Mon., Jan. 19. Garbage and recycling will be collected on the following schedule:
- Regular Monday customers will be collected on Tue., Jan. 20.
- Regular Tuesday customers will be collected on Wed., Jan. 21.
- Regular Wednesday customers will be collected on Thurs., Jan. 22.
- Regular Thursday and Friday customers will be collected on Fri., Jan. 23.
- Residential and commercial (inside the Downtown district) garbage and recycling will be collected as regularly scheduled.
- Leaf & Limb will be collected Tue., Jan 20 - Fri., Jan. 23 in Area B.
- The Landfill will be closed on Mon., Jan. 19, resuming regular hours on Tue., Jan. 20.
- The CHaRM is closed on Mondays. It will be open as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
- The Materials Recycling Facility will be open on Mon., Jan. 19.
- Solid Waste offices will be closed on Mon., Jan. 19, resuming regular hours on Tue., Jan. 20.
