This is a working facility with moving equipment. All safety precautions must be followed by all tour participants.
All tour participants must wear the provided safety gear, including safety glasses, his-vis vests, and hard hats. Hard hats must be able to fit securely on the attendee’s head. Hairstyles must not interfere with the wearing of the hard hat or attendees will not be able to visit inside the recycling facility. Any updos will prohibit the hard hat from fitting on securing, therefore hair must down or pull down low.
All tour participants must wear comfortable closed-toe shoes that are ok to get dirty. Sandals, flip-flops, slides or Crocs NOT ALLOWED. There may be broken glass on the ground.
This is a multi-level open facility with several flights of stairs. Individuals with fear of heights may not be comfortable for the inside portion of the tour.
Landfill/Compost Safety Precautions:
The tour will be held completely outdoors. Participants should wear appropriate clothing for the weather. In the event of rain, we will have to reschedule the tour. Be award that there will be an odor at the composting facility. Some particpants are often distracted by it. It is not necessarily a bad odor, it is just strong, very condensed soil smell.
Tour is completely outside. There may be wild critters present such as grasshoppers, ants, flies, vultures, and roaches.
Special Notes:
Composting Facility and Landfill do not have a convenient bathroom. There is a composting bathroom, like a porta potty, at the Outdoor Classroom. Please plan accordingly.
There is also no running water available at this facility.
