    Professional Experience: Mariah Parker is a graduate teaching assistant in the department of language and literacy education at the University of Georgia, where she teaches classes on reading and writing pedagogy for early childhood educators. She is formerly a research assistant in the linguistics department, where she assisted with Portuguese-English translations, facilitated language acquisition research studies, and edited manuscripts on systemic functional linguistics. Parker has previously taught and tutored English in a variety of contexts. She has also toured internationally as a performing artist. 

    Civic and Community Service: Parker leads literacy workshops on hip hop, spoken word and civic engagement at local schools. 

    Education: Mariah graduated with a BA in Creative Writing and a minor in Modern Languages from Warren Wilson College in 2012 before earning her master's in Linguistics at the University of Georgia in 2017. She currently is a doctoral student in Language and Literacy Education at the University.

    Personal: Mariah was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Her favorite hobbies are rollerskating and spending time with her cat, Eggs.

    Her initial term began in May 2018.
