Sub-Project 2: Bus Stop Improvements

Project Details

This project is for the capital improvements to the Athens Transit bus stops to include installation of new signage, paved areas at each stop, seating, bus shelters, art shelters, landscaping, route information and other related improvements at the bus stops. This is a continuation of a SPLOST 2005 and SPLOST 2000 programs.  

Project Updates

Design for each of the stops to be improved has been completed.  Other shelters and remaining improvements are approximately 98% complete. To date 15 level two sites with Simme Seats have been completed, 38 new shelters have been installed.  Unique Type I art shelters are under contract. Final Design and land acquisition is near completion on approximately 25 additional stops. All of the Type II Art shelter designs have now been installed, completing the Art Bus Shelter Program. Site work has been completed and there are three shelters to be set in place in late July 2020. The Contractor is currently installing 89 post mounted solar lighting and 39 lights on older shelters that do not currently have lighting.
