Project Details
Sidewalk Gap Program Projects:
- FY17 Group 1 - N Chase Street, Baxter Street and Southview Drive
- Project Concepts for the sidewalk “Gaps” Program were approved by M&C on January 3, 2017. This group of sub-projects include design of three segments of gap sidewalks on N. Chase Street, Baxter Street, and Southview Drive to include update and addition to existing crosswalks, accessibility ramps and signal improvements as necessary. ARCADIS has completed concept drawings. Mayor & Commission approved the preliminary plans on March 6, 2018.
- A preconstruction meeting was held on April 25, 2019. Construction of sidewalk and retaining wall on Baxter began on May 13th . Construction on Southview Drive is scheduled to begin later this summer after Baxter Street is complete. Signal and intersection improvements for both segments are currently being coordinated with utility owners and GDOT, with work scheduled to be complete by fall 2019. Right of way acquisition on N. Chase Street is ongoing.
- FY17 Group 2 - Holman Ave, Barnett Shoals Rd and Magnolia Street
- This group of sub-projects include design of three segments of gap sidewalks on Holman Ave, Barnett Shoals Rd, and Magnolia Street. The design will also include update and addition to existing crosswalks, accessibility ramps and signal improvements as necessary.
- On October 25, 2018, staff met with affected property owners, presented proposed concepts, and solicited comments. The design consultant continues to work on finalizing the preliminary construction plans. On December 4, 2018, M&C approved the preliminary design and authorized staff to begin acquisition of necessary Rights of Way and easements. Plans are nearing completion, and right of way acquisition is ongoing.
- FY17 Group 3 - Atlanta HWY (W Broad St), South Milledge Avenue, and Lexington Road
- FY17 Group 4 - Prince Avenue
- The project includes design of three phases of gap sidewalks all on Prince Avenue. The design will also include update and addition to existing crosswalks, accessibility ramps and signal improvements.
- All work has been completed on this sub-project.
Project Updates
- FY17 Group 1 - N Chase Street, Baxter Street and Southview Drive
- On Baxter Street, the contractor continues to work on wall construction, including brick veneer and rails. The sidewalk was opened to the public in early August 2019. Signal upgrades in the intersection with S. Milledge, which includes ADA ramps and pedestrian facilities, is on hold due to utility coordination with GDOT & Georgia Power.
- On Southview Drive, the contractor began clearing and tree removal in July. Work is near complete on the 330 block between Pinecrest and O’Farrell Street, and work has begun on the 200 block. The contractor is limited to working on the lesser of one block or 500 linear feet. Lane closures will be in place during work hours. Substantial Completion is scheduled for January 2020.
- N. Chase Street Sidewalk: Right-of-way acquisition is complete, and staff is negotiating pricing with the Sol Construction. This project potentially will be added as a change order to the existing contract. Work may commence as early as November 2019.
- FY17 Group 2 - Holman Ave, Barnett Shoals Rd and Magnolia Street
- On Holman Avenue and Magnolia Street, the right of way acquisition is in progress and anticipated to be complete in November 2019 followed by bid award approval by M&C.
- Right of way acquisition on the Barnett Shoals sidewalk gap sub-project is complete, and this project will move forward with construction advertisement and award in fall 2019 in combination with the Carriage Lane Culvert Replacement Project.
