Following Athens-Clarke County procedure, you are being notified as a subscriber to the Neighborhood Notification Initiative that the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and consider the following proposals on Thursday Jan. 2nd at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium at 120 West Dougherty Street:

Proposals

• 4500 & 4530 ATLANTA HWY & 145 BEDGOOD RD
  Amend a C-G, RM-2, & RS-5 (PD)
  PROPOSAL: 421 single-family detached units, 219 townhomes, and 238 residential multi-family units (878 units total) 
• 1280 OCONEE ST & 300 ANN ST
  From C-G & RM-1 to C-G & RM-2 (PD)
  PROPOSAL: 13 units (48 bedrooms) of residential multi-family and 7,000 sq. ft. of commercial space
• 1691 MILLEDGE AVE. EXTENSION
  From RM-1 to RM-2
  PROPOSAL: 1 residential multi-family unit (3 bedrooms) 
• 218 NORTH AVE
  From C-N to RM-3
  PROPOSAL: 89 units (228 bedrooms) of residential multi-family 
• 997 S. MILLEGE AVE
  From C-O to RM-2
  PROPOSAL: 4 townhomes plus conversion of existing office building into 5 single-bedroom units
• 610, 720, 730, & 760 NEWTON BRIDGE RD
  From Employment Center & Rural to Mixed Density Residential; From I to RM-1
  PROPOSAL: 184 townhomes and 166 single-family detached units
• 450 & 460 GAINES SCHOOL RD
  From Main Street Business & Traditional Neighborhood to Main Street Business;       From C-O & RS-15 to C-N & RM-2 (PD)
  PROPOSAL: 69 townhomes, 10 accessory dwelling units, 10,000 sq. ft. of commercial space

Public Comment

In Person Comments

Residents are invited to provide public comment in person at Planning Commission meetings. Applicants and representatives of specified interest groups are provided ten minutes to address the Commission. All other speakers are provided three minutes.

Written or Email Comments

Written or emailed public comments received by the Planning Department no later than noon Wednesday, Jan. 1st will be forwarded to the Planning Commission for their consideration prior to the hearing. 

After this date, written comments may be read into the record at the hearing, subject to the previously noted time limits for addressing the Commission. Comments will also be forwarded to the Mayor & Commission. 

Meeting Purpose

The purpose of the Planning Commission hearing is to be a forum for public comments in favor or in opposition to the proposal.

After the Planning Commission hearing, the Mayor & Commission are tentatively scheduled to consider the request at their Agenda Setting meeting on Jan. 21st, 2025 with a final vote tentatively scheduled for Feb. 4th, 2025.
