Athens In Motion Bicycle / Pedestrian Master Plan

ACCGov Trans. & Public Works Seeks Input on Athens in Motion Plan Update through Dec. 7

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s (ACCGov) Transportation and Public Works Department (TPW) invites residents to provide input on future bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements via an online survey through Sunday, December 7. This community input will help shape the update to the Athens in Motion (AIM) Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan first approved in 2018.

The update will build on the work of the 2018 plan to meet new community needs and provide a clear vision for the future of active transportation in Athens-Clarke County. A key component of the update is a revised vision network, which lays out where investment in sidewalks and bikeways will have the biggest impact towards achieving the goals of the AIM plan.

Feedback from in-person pop-up events and the online survey will help the Athens in Motion Commission consider how the updated network should be prioritized before presenting recommendations to the Mayor and Commission. Over the next few months, the Athens in Motion Commission will work with the Toole Design consultants to shape a list of priority projects and develop a framework to guide how and where bicycle and pedestrian investments happen.

Background

On October 2, 2018, the Mayor and Commission approved the Athens in Motion bike/pedestrian master plan.

The Athens In Motion Plan identifies a clear strategy for near and long-term projects that will result in a safe, connected, and equitable bike and pedestrian network for Athens-Clarke County.

The Athens in Motion Commission (AIMC) is responsible for development, implementation, and modification of the plan for a safe and connected network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout Athens-Clarke County.

The AIMC is advisory in nature and is charged with the responsibility of recommending projects, policies, and initiatives to the Mayor and Commission. Find out more about its upcoming meetings.
