The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department currently provides garbage collection and recycling services to approximately 9,840 residential customers in the Urban Service District (USD), which encompasses the former city limits of Athens. Of those residential customers, we provide backyard service to approximately 215 customers. (Updated 8/31/2025).

Missed Service
Report missed garbage and/or recycling within 24 hours of the normally scheduled pick-up. Contact the Solid Waste Department at 706-613-3501, press 5 or email collections@accgov.com.

Roll Cart Replacement

To request a replacement of your trash or recycling roll carts if they are missing or damaged. Contact the Solid Waste Department at 706-613-3501, press 6 or email swbilling@accgov.com

To find out if you are required to use Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste for your residential garbage and recycling services, click on the interactive map below and select the "Trash &  Recycling Pickup Schedule" tab. 

  • In the search box, type your address. 
  • If your address appears, it should tell you what your pickup day is. This would indicate that you are in our service area. 
  • If your address does not appear, you are probably not in our service area and can set up service with any of the Private Haulers authorized to haul within Athens-Clarke County.
