Record Searches
If you need information or copies from the records of the Clerk of Magistrate Court, you may search the records in person during normal business hours. If you are not able to appear in person and need a copy of a record, you may forward a written request to the Clerk of Magistrate Court with appropriate fees via mail. Requests for Certified Copies
The Clerk of the Magistrate Court processes record search requests in the order of receipt. It's important to understand that processing times may vary due to factors such as file location and age. To expedite your request, please provide comprehensive details including arrest or filing dates, case numbers, the name of the individual at the time of arrest, other party names, charges, and any other relevant information. This will enhance the likelihood of successfully locating your case file. Additionally, please include payment by money order or check for each search, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope included with your request. Please note, that the Magistrate Court cannot provide copies of any file dated 1992 or older, only copies of docket books can be provided.

Traffic Violation Records Maintained by the Clerk of Magistrate Court
The Clerk of Magistrate Court maintains records in Traffic Violation Records from December 31, 1960, through June 30, 1985. After July 1, 1985, all traffic cases were handled by the State Court of Athens-Clarke County or the Municipal Court of Athens-Clarke County.
The Clerk of State Court is located on the fourth floor of the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse. The Clerk of State Court can be reached at 706-613-3190. The Clerk of Municipal Court is located on the first floor of the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse and can be reached at 706-613-3690.
Criminal Records Maintained by the Clerk of Magistrate Court
The Clerk of Magistrate Court also holds criminal records from December 24, 1960, through the present. For records before November 4, 1992, the only records maintained by the clerk of the Magistrate Court are the hand-written docket books. For records after November 4, 1992, the Clerk maintains a computerized docket.
