Statement of Purpose

The Lyndon House Arts Center supports area artists in their creative pursuit, exhibiting their works with excellence and professionalism to develop and design art exhibitions and programs of relevance to our times. The Arts Center provides the community with quality art education and events to celebrate our cultural heritage and firmly believe that the arts pave a way for diversity, inclusivity, equity and accessibility.

The Arts Center offers rotating contemporary gallery exhibition, community events, classes, workshops and studio memberships. The Ware-Lyndon Historic House (c. 1850) houses a decorative collection, Resilient Civic and Musical Life: Ware-Lyndon House Enslaved and Descendant Stories exhibit and film, and on our grounds, an interpretive garden. The Lyndon House Arts Center is dedicated to cultural place making and enriching the Athens area through the inclusion of art in every aspect of everyday life, fostering a deep appreciation in the value of the visual arts.

Admission Fee:

Admission is always free. No tickets or reservations required.

Accessibility:

This facility is wheelchair accessible. We have three wheelchairs available for guest use. Please call ahead and we will have a chair ready for you when you arrive.

Parking:

Free parking is available.

Hours:

Tuesday & Thursday 10:00am - 8:00pm

Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday 10:00am - 5:00pm 

The Historic Ware-Lyndon House is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00am - 5:00pm.  

This facility is closed Sundays, Mondays, for all UGA home football games, and for all ACC holidays.

Directions via Car:

  • From Atlanta:

    • Take I-85 N to GA-316 E toward Athens.
    • Follow GA-316 E to North Avenue. Turn left onto North Avenue.
    • Continue straight and turn right onto Hoyt Street.
    • Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.
  • From Gainesville:

    • Take US-129 S to Athens.
    • Merge onto GA-10 Loop S and take Exit 14 (North Avenue).
    • Turn right onto North Avenue, then right onto Hoyt Street.
    • Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.
  • From Watkinsville:

    • Take US-441 N to Athens.
    • Merge onto GA-10 Loop and take Exit 14 (North Avenue).
    • Turn left onto North Avenue, then right onto Hoyt Street.
    • Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.

Directions via Public Transportation:

  • From the University of Georgia Campus:

    • Take Route 5 (North Avenue) from the UGA Transit Hub.
    • Get off at the North Avenue & Hoyt Street stop.
    • Walk north on Hoyt Street for about 5 minutes. The Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.
  • From Downtown Athens:

    • Take Route 8 (East Athens) from any downtown bus stop.
    • Get off at the North Avenue & Hoyt Street stop.
    • Walk north on Hoyt Street for about 5 minutes. The Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.
  • From Other Areas:

    • Reach the Multimodal Transit Center downtown by any route.
    • Transfer to either Route 5 (North Avenue) or Route 8 (East Athens).
    • Walk north on Hoyt Street for about 5 minutes. The Lyndon House Arts Center will be on your right.
