Managed Forest Project

Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc., and Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services is improving wildlife habitat and enhancing educational opportunities by converting 30 acres of low-quality wildlife habitat at Sandy Creek Nature Center into a managed forest.

Using sustainable, professionally supervised practices on demonstration plots, we are eradicating invasive species, opening the forest canopy, improving plant and animal diversity and promoting flowering plants and pollinators. These plots are united by a network of trails and educational stations. The funding is provided by grants from Sandy Creek Nature Center, Inc. and other organizations.
