A modern roundabout is a circular intersection where drivers travel counterclockwise around a center island. There are not traffic signals or stop signs in a modern roundabout.

There are several roundabouts located in Athens-Clarke County intersections, including ones at:

• Ponderosa Drive and Sunnybrook Drive
• Several small neighborhood circles on Sunset Drive area and Homewood Drive
• Tallassee Road and Whitehead Road (SPLOST 2011 - Project #26.2)
• Whitehall Road and South Milledge Avenue (SPLOST 2011 - Project #26.2 / TSPLOST 2018 - Project #10)

There are also several proposed roundabouts as upcoming projects, including:

• West Broad Street intersection with West Hancock, The Plaza, and Minor Street (TSPLOST 2018 - Project #13)
• Chase Street intersections with Loop 10 on- and off-ramps
