The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway Bridge Replacement Project consisted of replacing the existing bridge along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway between Ruth Drive and Strickland Avenue with a precast bottomless culvert. The existing bridge culvert, spanning a tributary to the North Oconee River, is approximately 20 feet long. The existing structure has two 11-foot travel lanes and one five-foot sidewalk on the west side.
Roadway construction included storm drain pipe and inlets, sanitary sewer relocation, sidewalks, retaining walls, curb & gutter, mill and inlay asphalt, and construction of a 14-foot wide paved multi-use path on the river side (west side) of the project, which could be connected to a future expansion of the Oconee River Greenway Network.
