The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov), with the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT), was awarded a federal grant through the Bridge Investment Program to support a study of distressed bridges in the county.
ACCGov selected 5 of the 44 locally-owned bridges in Athens-Clarke County that have the most urgent structural need, as well as the ability to support mobility and pedestrian connectivity.
Purpose
The purpose of this study includes evaluating these 5 existing bridges for replacement and/or rehabilitation. This analysis will build upon previous work, which justified the selection of bridges.
The study will screen each of the bridges and surrounding sites to identify 3 bridges with the highest need for replacement and highest cost-benefit ratio. The final Planning and Feasibility Report will be used by ACCGov to establish priority maintenance/replacement for these 5 bridges and potentially seek further grants to support construction in the future.
