The Commercial Terminal Facility Project at Athens Ben Epps Airport, includes the construction of an 18,000 square-foot terminal to meet the needs of both current and FAA predicted passengers. The new terminal replaced the nearly 70-year-old terminal. The new commercial terminal provides space for TSA offices, airline offices and multiple ticket counters, rental car office space for two companies, a passenger and bag screening area, a public lobby, a vending area, flight school and flight rental space, future baggage claim area, a secure holding room for passengers after screening, and canopies over the new drop-off lane and over the boarding and arrival doors for weather protection. The project also included a new concrete hardstand for jets, an expanded parking lot for rental cars, and a backup generator for the building. The terminal was designed with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.
The Athens-Clarke County SPLOST office provided full project management services including; design coordination, construction oversight, and startup supervision.
