Project Summary
Project 24 provided for the restoration of Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery, establishing vehicular pathways and pedestrian paths. Benches were installed along pathways. Kiosks with informational signage and the information for a self-guided tour were installed at the front of the cemetery. Public sidewalks around the cemetery were also improved upon to provide better access to the cemetery.
On May 15, 2009, the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County was presented an Excellence in Rehabilitation Award for the Project by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation; and on June 8, 2009 the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County was presented an Outstanding Achievement Award for the Project by the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.
