Project Summary
Project 19 expanded the space at the Athens-Clarke County Animal Services Shelter to better serve the needs of animals housed at the facility and to efficiently provide the level of animal services directed by the Mayor and Commission. This included the consolidation of the Animal Shelter facilities, moving housing for cats and kittens into the same building as dogs and puppies. The building is now also equipped to handle other animals, such as rabbits or livestock. The expansion created new interaction facilities for potential adopters to interact with the animals. The facility also created new kennel runs, medical isolation rooms, food preparation rooms and a cage cleaning room. With increased space, dogs and cats can be housed for longer in the shelter. Expanded administrative space for Animal Services employees and additional storage capability for documents and records was also included in this project.
