Bess Carter was the recent recipient of the 2022 Art Center Choice Award from the 47th Juried Exhibition. This award includes a solo exhibition in the renovated North Gallery.

Bess Carter is a local artist and a 2000 graduate of the Lamar Dodd School Art at UGA. She is the art teacher at Oconee County High School. 

“My inspiration definitely comes from my family and everyday beautifully imperfect life as a mom to four great kids. Seeing my art students find joy in making art and choosing to pursue creative careers is definitely a highlight of my job.” – Carter

Bess Carter’s exhibition featured landscapes, room interiors, and still life paintings all rich with unwavering color and delight.
