Inflections brings together three painters who create intimate worlds to enter and reflect upon. The diminutive scale of the works draws the viewer in for close investigation. Kaitlin Thurlow’s striped paintings hover on the edge between abstract landscapes and pure formalism. Of New England origin, Thurlow is currently working on a PhD in English at UGA, where she researches collaborations between the literary and visual arts. Maria Canzano’s loose, figurative gouache works capture the immediacy of everyday moments, rooted in a sense of place. Detroit-born, Canzano is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art and currently resides in Athens, GA. The lush, layered paintings by Morgan Auten Smith play with the language of shape, color, light, and weight to express the push and pull of maintaining a creative life. She is a passionate elementary school art educator based in Gainesville, GA.

Each of these artists submitted their work via the Arts Center’s Exhibition Proposal program for consideration in a group exhibition.
