The Lyndon House Arts Center is pleased to announce Morphogenesis, an exhibition in the Lobby Case by Wilay Méndez Páez.
Wilay Méndez Páez is an Afro-Cuban artist based in Atlanta, GA, whose work explores everyday present life and human connections. Morphogenesis, the show’s title, is the biological process that causes a cell or tissue to develop its shape. Working primarily in sculpture and collage, all of Páez’s pieces utilize recycled materials. The small metal sculptures on display are made from discarded car parts. Reflecting the grittiness of urban life, they exemplify resourcefulness and creativity, shining a light on the beauty within darkness. The smooth-surfaced, monochrome mat board sculptures provide a contrast to the metal work, acting as the seeds of ideas yet to be manifested.
Born and raised in Cuba, Páez’s artwork has been exhibited across that country, in Europe, and in the U.S. Currently an artist in residence at Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, Páez has shown widely in Atlanta, including at Day and Night Projects, Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Atlanta Contemporary, GerART Gallery, and the Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library.
