Perennial Pattern, by Sara Parker and Simon Hunt, is a body of 22 screen-printed-monoprints, each a result of a process of deconstruction and play. Using leftover ink from past projects and our original large- scale repeat patterns, we set out to create monoprints that resemble some form of the natural world – whether a river bottom, a vining trellis, or dappled sunlight in the forest. While each concept is agreed upon in advance, improvisation and play is required at every stage of creation. This childlike sense of creating art, in conjunction with our formal training, creates unexpected layers, textures, and color overlays that entices us to experience each work from a variety of distances and frames of mind.
